Heat Exchangers & Energy Systems

Heat pipe, metal foam, plate and shell-and-tube designs with performance analysis; waste heat recovery, boilers and power plant equipment.

What we do

A heat exchanger performs differently from its catalogue figure, because the catalogue describes an ideal condition and your system lives in a real one. Fouling, maldistribution, inlet disturbance and part load all erode performance.

We model the exchanger under your operating conditions and tell you what it will actually deliver.

Types we work with

  • Heat pipe heat exchangers
  • Metal foam structures
  • Plate and shell-and-tube types
  • Rotary regenerative gas-to-gas exchangers
  • Compact and finned surfaces

Energy systems

Waste heat recovery, boiler and power plant equipment, circulating fluidised bed boilers and flue gas treatment lines also sit under this heading.

Experimental grounding

The capability here does not rest on computation alone. The behaviour of heat pipe heat exchangers in heat recovery was studied on a purpose-built experimental rig, and the numerical model calibrated against measurement.

Modelling circulating fluidised bed systems on a cold experimental rig, and CFD work on metal foam heat exchangers for industrial applications, are part of the same body of experience.
